Let's take a closer look at the episode titles I revealed in my earlier post. At first I thought it would be futile to try and grasp at any of the plotlines beyond the first one, but those Lost writers love their titles and often give them very literary-minded double meanings. I've already shared my thoughts on the season premiere's title, so let's see what we can do with the rest...
Episode 5.02: "The Lie"
"The Lie" could mean a number of things, although the best bets are (A) the overarching lie that the Oceanic Six told about being the only survivors of 815, and (B) Kate lying about Aaron being her kid. I'm willing to go with (B). It makes sense that they'd give Kate her own episode early in the season, and there have already been questions raised about the likelihood of Aaron being her son -- remember the reporter who questioned her pregnancy at the Oceanic Six press conference? That scene we saw in the Season 5 teaser of Kate packing and taking Aaron with her somewhere might very well take place in this episode.
Episode 5.03: "Jughead"
Well, the first thing you think of is the character from Archie Comics. Who reads comics? Hurley. The generally non-serious title also leads me to believe it could be a Hurley episode - meaning we might also see some of Sayid, since the two are on the run together. Beyond that, I got nothing.
Episode 5.04: "The Little Prince"
An obvious reference to the famous book of the same name. Unfortunately, said book is just about the most philosophically overloaded children's book ever written, so it's unlikely I'll guess the correct correlation. The book is about a boy who lives on a small asteroid, decides to leave, and travels to six other asteroids, each one inhabited by a different adult who is in some way shortsighted. (The way I put it, that sounds heavily reminiscent of Locke's journey to visit each of the Oceanic Six. Or might it be Walt's journey to each of the Oceanic Six, to find out what happened to his father?)
After visiting the six asteroids, the boy visits a seventh place -- Earth -- where he has a whole different adventure, but as I can't draw any direct Lost parallels, I'll direct you to SparkNotes' summary instead. There's a lot to think about, one that could take up a whole other post. For now, I like my Walt idea.
Episode 5.05: "This Place is Death"
I assumed that was a quote from something, but a Google search for the phrase drew nothing but Lost links. Luckily, one of them was the message board on 4815162342.com, where somebody had a really good idea: this episode could be Rousseau's backstory (Lindelof and Cuse confirmed at Comic-Con that it was coming), and the title of course could refer to her view of the island upon getting there. If not, the title's still definitely referring to the island in some manner.
Episode 5.06: "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham"
Seems pretty cut-and-dry: this will be Locke's episode detailing his adventures as Bentham and his untimely death. Which means 5.01, which I thought could either be Jack or Locke's episode, is probably Jack's.
