Vague Spoilers That Will Confuse You More

Hawaii Weblog, which has been posting Lost set photos for years now, just posted a very interesting report on where shooting stands this season.

If you'd like to remain *completely* spoiler free, read no further, but none of this comes with any context, so rest assured that you will still have no idea what's going on.

Oh, and there's a confirmation of one former character's appearance.

Ready? Okay...

The set was none other than Honolulu International Airport, which (as indicated by a “Welcome to Los Angeles” sign) was reprising its role as LAX....[which] strongly suggests what The Powers That Be hinted might unfold as Season 6 began: the safe arrival of Oceanic Flight 815 at LAX.

Indeed, expected on the set were Matthew Fox (Jack), Evangeline Lilly (Kate), Josh Holloway (Sawyer) and Naveen Andrews (Sayid). But the first hardworking actor sighted was none other than Daniel Roebuck, who played the hapless (and previously detonated) Dr. Leslie Arzt.

But hold on a second...

As reported Saturday...visiting fans from Spain and New York reported seeing Evangeline Lilly, Matthew Fox, Josh Holloway and Ken Leung working deep in the jungles of Kaneohe. That suggested scenes that picked up right where Season 5 left off, near the (former?) Swan station site.

In other words, we're getting conflicting information: lots of evidence that the bomb blowing up did reset the timeline, and lots of other evidence that it didn't. (There was also news of a scene shooting where "Ille qui nos omnes servabit" used to live.)

So what's going on, exactly? Four options that I can see:

1. The Alternate Timeline was Created, and Didn't Erase the Old One.

Juliet blew up Jughead, the future was re-written, and now there's a new alternate universe where all our castaways landed safely in LAX. Except...the old universe didn't go anywhere. There are now two parallel universes -- one where Jacob, it should be noted, is still alive. Will the timelines be able to merge back into one again?

2. Same as Above, Except Everybody's Now Unstuck, Too

Remember the beginning of Season 5? When Ben turned the Frozen Donkey Wheel, the island, according to Faraday, became like a record that started skipping. They were jumping all over history.

Here we've got the same philosophy, except that this time it's the castaway's minds -- everybody who was in on the timeline-altering plot -- who are jumping back and forth between the parallel universes. (This has the benefit of creating a pacing device similar to jumping in and out of flashbacks.) There's a lot of room for drama here: one minute, Sayid's getting off the plane in LAX, the next minute, he's back in the jungle bleeding from his gunshot wound.

3. There's No Old Timeline, It's Just That Nobody Disappeared

It worked. The alternate timeline was created. It's just that the surviving people who caused it to happen -- Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Miles, Sayid, Jin, and Hurley -- didn't up and disappear. But where did they come from, now that Oceanic 815 didn't crash? Good question, but it would be a question anyway: the bomb wouldn't have gone off in the first place if they weren't there to drop it down the well. (Head hurt yet?)

So what about the Shadow of the Statue people and that whole storyline? It's still happening. Even though 815 didn't crash, the Ajira flight still did, with Sun, Frank, Locke's body, and the Shadow of the Statue people on board. Why? We'll find out.

Heck, if I was feeling bullish, I'd say that it's that flight where the new timeline hooks back up with where the old one should be (whether it still exists or not). In fact, maybe in the new timeline, Jack et al are on board but don't skip back to the '70s. So they're suddenly there with the Others and the Shadow of the Statue folks when Impostor Locke and Ben come back out -- hence Jacob's warning that "They're coming."

4. No Old Timeline. It Just Takes a Little While for the New One to Go Into Effect.

I guess that would work too, right?
