Two new Lost characters coming our way for Season 5!

Wow. It's weird to suddenly be talking about Season 5 after all this time of Season 4 this, Season 4 that. Remember when we were speculating what kind of evil mofos we would find on the freighter? Those were the days...

Anyway, news today comes from Entertainment Weekly's new TV scooper Michael Ausiello, who reports that two new characters are being added to Lost's roster: in Season 5 they'll be recurring characters, but they'll have an option to become regulars in the sixth and final season. (Judging how popular they end up being, of course -- on the sliding scale, let's hope they end up near Ben and Desmond, far away from Nikki and Paolo.)

The news is breaking because production gets underway on August 19th, and casting calls have gone out for actors who could fit these roles:

First up is Caesar, a dangerous, physical and extremely intelligent male between the ages of 35 and 45. Although his intentions are unclear, this much is certain: He's as skillful at charming people as he is at killing them. He also has a dark past, but, c'mon, that much was a given.
The other newbie is Ilanna, a European female in her late 20s to early 30s who possesses great intelligence, but who's also dangerous as all get out. She's alluring and apparently used to getting her own way.

The article includes some theorizing from Jeff Jensen on who these two people could be: Caesar, he guesses, could be the Other who immediately preceded Ben in leadership, while Ilanna could be a new love interest for Sayid.

Nice enough guesses, but I'm willing to bet they're more linked than that. They both have foreign names, they're both extremely charming, and they're both very dangerous -- could they be some kind of power couple from a resurfaced Dharma Initiative that gets in touch with the Oceanic Six? (A plotline along those lines would make sense given that this summer's viral marketing game thingy indicates that the Initiative is still alive and kicking.) But here's a bigger question: will they show up on the island, or in L.A.? (Or in Tunisia or Sydney or Antarctica?) Brain overload...
