Theory of the Day: Kate was talking to Cassidy

This one's easy, based on everything we know about Sawyer and Kate.

Before the crash, as you'll remember from Season 2's "The Long Con," Sawyer got involved with a woman named Cassidy after botching a con with her and subsequently agreeing to teach her his tricks. It turned out, however, that the whole thing was a "long con" to cheat Cassidy out of $600,000. Sawyer fell in love with her and wanted out, but after his partner threatened to kill both of them, he went through with the scam.

Chronologically speaking, Cassidy next surfaced by befriending Kate in the flashbacks of Season 3's "Left Behind." Without ever telling Kate Sawyer's name, she explains how she was ripped off by a guy she loved and is now pregnant. Kate tells her to turn him in to the police.

Finally, Season 3's "Every Man for Himself" aired before "Left Behind," but the flashbacks took place about a year later. Sawyer is in jail; Cassidy visits him and tells him he has a daughter, Clementine. Sawyer brushes it off at the time, but after commuting the last six years of his sentence by betraying a fellow inmate, he uses his reward money to set up a bank account in Clementine's name, stipulating that she never know who the money's from.

Okay, I hope you enjoyed the history lesson. You've probably already figured out my theory, but here it is: Kate was talking to Cassidy on the phone in the flash-forward. Before getting off the island, Sawyer tells her about Cassidy and Clementine and asks her to check up on them. Kate, already friendly with Cassidy, obliges. That's something Sawyer definitely cares about, and nothing else we know about him suggests his request to Kate could be anything else, so...case closed.

Except for one thing: when Cassidy first told Sawyer about Clementine, I just assumed she was conning him, knowing that he would send her money. I guess if that's true, there'd be no reason to tell Kate she was pregnant, but still. It would've been pretty cool.
