The Ratings

Premiere ratings were solid for Lost.

The 8-9 recap won 8.5 million viewers. The two-hour premiere averaged 11.35 million viewers overall.

That's down 26% from last season's premiere, although it did have to face the series premiere of Fox's Lie to Me, which benefited from being an American Idol lead-out and got about the same amount of viewers as Lost. Lost did improve over its average ratings in its final month last season.

Variety also notes that Lost jumps about 20% when first-week DVR ratings are factored in. Along with internet viewing, that puts the number of people who watch the premiere within a week of its airing at almost exactly 14 million.

To compare that with other popular shows, Grey's Anatomy usually hits around 16-18 million viewers, while The Office usually hits around 9-10 million viewers.
