The LOST coffin

Michael had a good post thinking about Sayid in the coffin. But as I've been thinking through it, I'm going to take a different position. Maybe I just like to play Devil's Advocate.

Here's what we know and what I think in regards to the coffin at the end of Season 3...

No one came to the funeral
Kate was disgusted at the idea of going to the funeral
Jack said he was neither friend nor family to the deceased
Carlton Cuse said that the deceased is a character we've met before Season 4
The Oceanic 6 are very well known and popular
It is now confirmed that at least one islander made it off the island (Ben) therefore others could be off
My guess is that no one from Oceanic 815 besides the 6 made it off
I've written that I think Ben is leading a fight against the outsiders. If so, it is plausible that the Oceanic 6 (or at least Sayid) would be in favor of the outsiders being taken down

When I put all these pieces together, I begin to think that the profile for the person in the coffin can't be one of the 6 (too popular for no one to show up) and someone that Jack would have some sympathy for (he wants to go back and probably help the islanders). However, it's someone that Kate is repulsed by despite the battle to protect the island.

If we go with none of the Oceanic 815ers making it off sans the 6, then the coffin would not contain Locke, Michael, Boone (ha!) or any other 815er. Instead it would have to be an islander or an outsider. If Jack has sympathy for anyone, my guess is it's for an islander.

This leads me to believe it's Ben in the coffin.

Kate would hate him (I believe that). Jack would sympathize for him (the island is under attack and he wants to go back (though we know not why)). But at the same time, none of the 6 would be friends with Ben and I could see Jack having a love/hate relationship with Ben.

Of course I'm sure in the next episode we'll find out I'm totally off on my thoughts. But isn't that why we watch LOST?

I am convinced it is Ben, and the reason Jack is so upset by the death is because he realises without Ben he can't get back to the Island. I reckon he wants to get back to the Island as that was the only place he felt his life was worth anything and that people looked up to him.
