Sun: Villain?

Sun-and-Widmore.jpg

In Sun's only flash-forward of the finale, she seeks out Charles Widmore in London and tells him she's Mr. Paik's daughter - the "Managing Director of Paik Industries." Widmore mentions golfing with her father - a confirmation that he's had close business relations with Paik in the past.

Sun gets right to the point: she knows that he knows she's a member of the Oceanic Six, and that they've been lying about everything. Then: "You and I have common interests. When you're ready to discuss them, call me. As you know, we're not the only ones who left the island."

Aside from the Six, Ben, Locke, Frank, and Desmond left the island. Given what we know, it's reasonable to assume she's talking about Ben - implicitly offering to help Widmore find Ben.

(Then again, you could read the line in a number of different ways. We have no evidence that Sun even knows Ben is off the island - but they both probably know Desmond is. And what of Frank? Wouldn't Widmore find out that Frank popped back up, too? Then there's Locke - who probably met with Sun, and whom Widmore probably would like to meet given that he's inherited Ben's position on the island. Clearly, lots of room for intrigue here.)

When Sun talked her way into a major job with Paik Industries in Part 1 of "There's No Place Like Home," she said two people are responsible for Jin's death, one being her father. The other, specifically? Jack answers that in the final scene with Ben: "She blames me."

If Sun really has developed a vendetta against Jack for the supposed death of Jin, that's reason enough for her to turn to Widmore for an alliance, especially if she thinks Jack is in cahoots with Ben or Locke to go back to the island. (Her flash-forward happens immediately after the freighter blows up, with her screaming at Jack and Frank to go back and search for Jin.)

Originally I wanted to believe that Sun was simply playing Widmore, but I'm finding it much juicier if Sun actually aligns herself on the opposite side and plays the antagonist in Season 5 (which, may I add, isn't even necessarily the "bad" side as far as we know.) Especially since, as per Ben and Locke's rules, she has to return to the island along with Jack and everyone else.
