Last week's episode was terrific: a character study combined with heavy Lost mythological awesomeness to create a very cohesive forty-two minutes of television - sort of like The Constant.
Tonight's episode wasn't like that. Nope, tonight's was a "let's everybody run around frantic 'cause the next episode is the two hour biggie" episode. Luckily, these types of episodes are also awesome.
Continuing with the theme of doing "special" flashes for finales, we got an all-Oceanic 6 flashforward, and it looks like that will continue into the next installment. (The season 1 finale was an everybody-flashback, season 2 was the first Desmond, and season 3 was the first flash-forward.) That probably means by the end of this season, we'll know everything we need to know about the Oceanic 6's future...but how will the two timelines meet back up for Season 5? That, I think, is the pivotal question we should be thinking about.
I'm going to need to re-watch the Oceanic representative's "official story" about the crash and rescue and over-analyze the crap out of it. I didn't catch enough the first time around.
Claire's entirely absent. For the rest of the season? And what about next year? Same question from last week, but still no less pertinent.
Jack finally finds out he and Claire were half-siblings! His expression was perfect - trying desperately to hide utter shock.
Ben flashing the mirror to his fellow Others: it'd be kind of funny if he was actually saying "kill the two guys I'm with." Course, we know Hurley survives, and the other Others like Locke at least as much as they like Ben.
Terrific acting from Josh Holloway tonight. Sawyer really took Claire's disappearance to heart, and it showed. And he and Jack always make for an entertaining male-bonding team.
People I hope don't die but very possibly will: Frank and Jin.
Let's check in on Walt soon, eh? I'd love to watch him sitting in front of the television, watching the Oceanic 6 press conference, telling his grandmother what a load of crap they're spewing. In fact, let's bring Malcolm David Kelly back full-time.
Faraday to the rescue! Even if his boat-steering isn't exactly as smooth as Sayid's.
More than anything else, I really want to see the inevitable conversation in the next episode between Sayid and Richard. Time for an Others/Oceanic team-up! Bring it on!
Sorry for the stilted nature of my thought processes, but I think you'd agree that's how the episode was, too: a little bit of everything. Two weeks off, then two hours of awesomeness. To pass the time, may I suggest visiting DailyLost every day until then?
