-We're slowly piecing together the larger scope of the show now. The entire series isn't just about people stuck on an island - it's about the island as a central point for a whole lot of opposing forces trying to use it. Tonight's bombshell is that Future Sayid "sold his soul," as he alluded to, by working for off-the-island Ben, hunting down people who answer to an unseen boss. Who? Well, I'm willing to bet the freighter folks answer to him/her as well.
-With proof now that Ben is off the island, that raises the question of how many people besides the Oceanic Six are off. Juliet is an obvious candidate. But here's someone else: what if Kate's not part of the Six? That would be a pretty good reason why she's not in jail.
-What did Naomi's bracelet say? I couldn't catch it. And did the woman Sayid fell in love with have the same one?
-How much you want to bet that we don't get to see any of Sayid and Desmond's freighter escapades for at least two weeks? I want to see this baby, darn it...
-Damon Lindelof: thanks for the tip about seeing a bird's eye view of the island tonight. I realize you were slyly referring to the notion that there would be a helicopter ride, but that was hardly a bird's eye view. We saw much more of the island in that first scene of Season 3 when the camera zooms way out of Othersville.
-The split between the castaways is already beginning to annoy me. Suddenly Locke is a jerk, Jack is homicidal, and that bit with Hurley was completely out of character for him. The guy trying to convince everybody to get along and show acts of "good faith" is not going to voluntarily betray Sayid and Kate - both very good friends of his, in case everybody magically forgot - and what's more, Locke wouldn't have trusted him to, either. Classic example of a plot reversal at the expense of character.
-What was with the subplot about Faraday's experiment? Since the missile from the freighter arrived roughly a half hour after it was supposed to, that means that somewhere between the freighter and the island is a time warp that throws you into the future. By a half hour. I just hope they follow up on this.
-More to come tomorrow if my thoughts become at all cohesive...
