Remember that PSA, “This is your brain on drugs,” with Rachael Lee Cook first destroying her eggs and subsequently wreaking havoc on her kitchen? Yeah, that’s what my brain goes through every Thursday evening. And still I go back for more.
Thanks to dailyLOST.com, I now watch Lost with a notepad at my side. Last night was no exception. And upon rereading my notes, I’ve come to a rather simple conclusion: the more ?! jotted down, the better the episode. So last night was pretty great.
Random thoughts and questions. Most still unresolved.
Why does Locke appear to be the only survivor who’s lost weight and shaped up since the crash?
Is the Oceanic 815 really on the bottom of the ocean? Or is there some mysteriously sketchy plot by “bad guys yet to be named” where dummy wreckage has been planted? And do they really ever show corpses on live TV like that?
Taking orders from WALT?! I appreciate that they’re making excuses for him growing up at a much faster rate than the rest of them. (And then there’s Aaron, who had over 50 “actors” play him in the first three seasons, apparently, all to keep him only a few days old).
Hmm. Locke’s father, as evil as he was, essentially saved Locke’s life. The missing kidney prevented Ben’s bullet from killing John at the end of last season.
All 324 passengers dead. I don’t believe it. Or should I?
We all know that Jack is a hero. But back on land, he’d still be one. He’s a surgeon, people. But Sawyer and Locke know their heroic niches are limited to the island. So while Locke is starting to make Sawyer insecure about his place in our favorite love triangle, I can’t help but wonder if Kate will realize that her freedom on the island will translate into prison back on land. Maybe she’ll go running back to Sawyer after all. (But in the future, she’s not in jail….)
Okay, so we meet Dan. If you haven’t seen Rescue Dawn, run to Blockbuster now. The main criticism of Jeremy Davies' performance in that film was that he portrayed a real-life hero as slightly Charles Manson-y. And the crazy continued last night. (More fun Lost-related trivia: François Chau, Dharma's Dr. Marvin Candle, also appears in Rescue Dawn).
Polar bears in the desert just make me go: ?!?!
Vincent is back. Locke has a hostage (Charlotte, with the strategic initials of C.S. Lewis. Time to get reading, folks). I have a feeling (supported by press releases) that Michael isn’t far behind.
We saw the pilot die a while ago. On the island. And now we’ve met the original intended pilot. So who’s the corpse? And maybe our survivors were on a completely different top-secret flight against their knowledge?!
Sawyer’s line of the night: “Who are we to argue with taller ghost Walt?”
Did Ben know newcomer Charlotte was wearing a bulletproof vest? Is she in cahoots with him? Is she an Other?
The Abaddon/Naomi flashback didn’t fit, as neither are on the island (to merit such flashback rights). Unless Abaddon IS there. Or Naomi’s not dead. Or they all are.
So many more questions. And as Michael noted earlier, next week’s episode will reveal another one of the Oceanic 6. Fingers crossed for Aaron. I’d say Claire and Aaron, but if there are only spots for six, I don’t think they can monopolize two of them.
And for people fascinated with literary (and Fantastic Four) connections to the newbies, affectionately called the Freighter Four, give this a read. I’m a fan of his nicknaming: Jack’s Pack, the Locke Lot, the Freighter Four....
Super-cool interactive tidbit alert: Did you call the Oceanic 815 hotline shown on the TV? It works. Trust me. 888-548-0034.
