Maps of the Island

Rob alerted us a while back about the awesomely comprehensive Lost map on Google Maps, which points out every significant Lost location that exists in the real world. But as for the island itself, Lindelof says that we're going to see our first bird's eye view of it in tonight's episode. (Kind of makes me nostalgic for Hurley's Season 1 line: "We don't technically know if we're even on an island.") So what's it going to look like?

The following are screencaps of Rousseau's maps that Sayid found in the Season 1 episode "Solitary". They might provide some hints (click on all the images for bigger versions):

And, of course, there's that infamous blast door map that Locke saw in Season 2's "Lockdown". Here's one translated version:

Yes, thanks to the rabid Lost fan base of which we are a part, there are already plenty of fan-made maps on the internet, some even dating back to 2004 when the show began. My favorite one is from lostmap.blogspot.com. It was posted on April 6th, 2007 - meaning there's no mention of the Looking Glass hatch or the freighter - but it sure is pretty, combining designs from Rousseau's drawings with hints from the blast door maps.

If this stuff gets your juices flowing, you should check out this thread from losttv-forum.com. It's a compilation of a series of maps created by a poster named "yung23" with a lot of computer graphical design skills, working from clues provided by Rousseau's drawings and screenshots. He even imported one of his maps into a computer game engine so he was able to walk around inside it. Crazy stuff.
