Lost video game released

An official Lost video game, Lost: Via Domus, was recently released. In the game, you take on the role of Elliot, an Oceanic 815 survivor stricken with amnesia who wanders the island, talks with some of the show's characters (although none of the real actors provide the dialog), and even has flashbacks of his own. The action takes place during the show's first two seasons and apparently a little bit of the third, and the plot is even split up into seven "episodes" with a big twist at the end.

Sounds kind of cool, right? Unfortunately, the reviews have not been kind - with most saying the game is far too short to justify spending the money on it. (Over at Amazon, it's $60 on PS3 and XBox 360, and $28 on Windows.) Here are some choice excerpts from Gamespot's review, which gave the game a 6.5/10:

The biggest problem is that there is not enough gameplay to fill more than seven hours, even if you go out of your way to find all of the Easter eggs, take in all of the sights, and unlock all of the achievements available on the Xbox 360.
Interacting with the cast should be enjoyable, but that isn't always the case...Aside from the occasionally great delivery by Hurley or the infrequent encounters with the Others, most of the exchanges look and feel flat. Even the nicknames delivered by Sawyer crash and burn most of the time. The characters are instantly recognizable but generally fail to do their real-life counterparts justice.

An occasional gamer, I'd be interested to buy the game for the story...but unfortunately, Lindelof and Cuse recently said that they don't consider the video game part of the show's canon, so whatever twists and turns it apparently contains might not even be worth it. Games cashing in on pre-existing properties are notorious for being generally crappy, though, so this is nothing new. But hey, whom am I kidding: if a couple months down the line I find this in the $10 bin at Best Buy, I'm definitely buying it.
