LOST Leadership

Who have been the major leaders on the island?

Jack - Jack took over to help the Oceanic 815 survivors make it. His goal was to protect and get them rescued. We now know that he was successful in getting himself and 5 others off the island. But something went horribly wrong. Lies have been told. Lives may have been unnecessarily lost. Hurley, post-island, apologizes to Jack for not following him and following John Locke instead. Somewhere, Jack LOST his leadership.

Locke - John Locke never really liked the fact that Jack was in charge after the crash. He saw things differently. He's fought hard to keep people on the island and after the season 4 premier, it seems that half of the survivors are now following Locke. However, something is about to go horribly wrong. Again, we turn to Hurley's apology to Jack for following Locke. It was a mistake to follow him. It may not be that Locke is wrong, and for all we know he accomplished his goal to keep people on the island. But it does seem that somewhere in all of this, Locke is going to LOSE his leadership.

Ben - Ben became the leader of the others many years ago after leading an extermination of the Dharma people. He seemed to be doing fine until Oceanic 815 crash landed on the island. From that point on, Ben has been on a quest to take advantage of the opportunity to further his agenda - mostly how to stay on the island and survive for generations (babies can't be born on the island). He also isn't interested in the survivors getting off the island though he let Michael and Walt go, and seemed to be willing to allow Jack and Juliet leave. But now that Jacob, Ben's leader, is now talking with John Locke and Ben is tied up with none of his others around, Ben has now LOST his leadership.

So what can we take away from all of this? Aren't their other leaders on the island? Sure, but I think these are the key ones. Leadership is never easy, and on this island, it seems one of the lessons we're going to take away is that even leaders can fall.
