Lost is an Emmy semifinalist!

Nope, the Emmy nominations haven't been announced yet, but it has been announced that Lost and nine other shows have made the semifinals for the Best Drama category.

Only five shows will survive the final cut, but this is a great step in Lost's return to award show prominence. After winning accolades from just about everywhere for Season 1, the show only got a few minor nominations each year thereafter - the big exception, of course, being Terry O'Quinn's Emmy win for Best Supporting Actor last year.

The Wire

So will five of those shows be eliminated, allowing Lost to reclaim its spot as an official nominee?

Friday Night Lights is a critical darling, but it usually gets left off these lists - and its second season was weaker than its first. The Wire is in much the same situation, but even more of a critical darling - and this past season was its last, so it could go either way. The Tudors gets a lot of bad reviews, and Damages isn't universally beloved, either. And is House strong enough?

On the other hand, Mad Men is every critic's favorite new show and already won a couple of Golden Globes, so it's probably nabbed a spot. Dexter has an avid following (then again, what doesn't?). Grey's Anatomy had an iffy season, but it's probably way too big to ignore. And Boston Legal keeps inexplicably winning awards, including James Spader's upset over James Gandolfini last year.
