Life After Lost: Maggie Grace

Sporty. Easy-going. Lesbian. And brunette. Not words I typically associate with our deceased Shannon. But Maggie Grace, in a strategic post-Lost role, shines in The Jane Austen Book Club. She's no longer insufferable. (I know, I know, not everyone shares my Shannon apathy. And yes, I'm looking at you, Mr. Dance.) Rather, Grace plays a young woman who chooses to move back in with her heartbroken mother keep her company as she navigates the waters of marital disintegration. She's still impulsive in love, but her free spirit is endearing, and she's anything but flighty. Would Shannon read the entire works of Austen and then deconstruct it with her mother's friends? It think not.

Don't count me as a complete Shannon hater. I softened to her just as Sayid was falling for her. And I think it would be fun to dress up in a mini skirt and blood-stained tank for a Lost party. I'm also relieved that Grace's performance in Book Club proves that the self-absorption was buried with her on the island and she's moved on to a career that will, no doubt, be successful and diverse. And she'll always have Lost on her resumé. Which gives her the best resumé ever.

Maybe I just have Shannon envy....
