Kate's Likeability

Doc Jensen's "Whatever Happened, Happened" preview is a pretty good one this week, as long as you skip the last three pages, which are devoted entirely to the book that Young Ben handed Sayid to read.

Before he goes down that rabbit hole, though, he shares this about his time on the Lost set in January:

''This is the linchpin episode for Kate this season,'' Evangeline Lilly told me during a break in shooting. ''This is the episode where we understand why Kate made the decision to come back to the Island. The entire Kate story for season 5 is revealed here in this episode, so it's been very cathartic to finally reveal to everyone what's going on behind the mask for 11 episodes. What I always hope is that people would go back and re-watch episodes and think, 'Oh, so that's why she reacted like that in episode 5 of season 5!' There's so much more than meets the eye.'' So tonight, we will get some insight into what happened to Aaron — and I'm pretty sure we'll finally learn what Sawyer whispered into Kate's ear during the season 4 finale.

I would complain that it's a Kate episode, but reading between the lines of Evangeline Lilly's comments, she's clearly saying: "Look, I hate how Kate has turned whiny and stupid this season as much as you do, but at least this episode tries to explain why, okay?" And I'm totally willing to go with her on that.

I think it's pretty much 100% universally understood that Sawyer told Kate to look up Cassidy and his kid when he whispered into her ear. Anything else will be out of left field. But here's something: what if Kate left Aaron with Cassidy? It's a reasonable possibility, especially if the Cassidy plotline is going to be explored in the episode anyway.
