I am suddenly obsessed with "Lost Madness"

After Nadine wrote about the brilliant Lost bracket challenge that the Washington Post was hosting on its website, I moseyed on over to take a look...and found myself helplessly obsessed. Sort of like that one night in October 2004 when I was watching Smallville and decided to check out the new show with the dude from Lord of the Rings in it...

The bracket - which pits every major (and many minor) Lost characters against each other and lets anybody vote on who's better - is in its second round now, so I figured I'd provide an update.

Some major first-round losers:
-Jin (barely lost to Sun)
-Michael (lost to Sayid)
-Claire (lost to Kate, alas)
-Hurley (lost in a fairly close race to Sawyer)
-Miles (lost, inexplicably, to wildly unlikable Ana-Lucia)
-Ethan (lost to Goodwin? C'mon! Ethan is the way cooler Other!)
-The Polar Bear (lost to the Smoke Monster)

As for Round 2, the biggest showdown in my opinion is Locke vs. Sayid. I voted for Sayid, and to my surprise he's winning by a comfortable margin: 66% to 34% from 1,176 votes. If he wins, his next opponent looks to be Jack, who is comfortably taking out Sun as expected, although unfortunately Vincent (who beat Aaron in the first round) is losing handily to Kate. C'mon - that dog is resourceful!

Also, in contrast to the Ana-Lucia vs. Miles contest, Ana-Lucia is now up against Dan Faraday, and he's beating her 85% to 15%. I didn't realize he was already such a fan favorite (or at least that much more of a fan favorite than Miles, who I find extremely entertaining).

Another regrettable outcome: Libby is beating Shannon with 59% of the vote. C'mon, Libby was the most pointless character this side of Nikki and Paolo. And if anyone was curious about whether Richard Alpert or Tom was the more popular Other, it looks like Alpert is winning with 58%.
