Elizabeth on Juliet

Elizabeth Mitchell is a little nervous. And she should be. No one is necessarily immune to the writers' wrath on Lost, and her character could be killed off at any moment. But a little healthy fear is probably a good thing. It keeps an actor on her toes and fans at the edge of their seats. And, as she shares at MSNBC.com, it keeps her focused on Juliet's character, not merely a plot's end game:

"As an actor I never work with a complete idea of what the end is gonna be. I prefer to work with an understanding of what my character's intentions are, what she's trying to do — which is how we all go through life."

Mitchell, who joined the cast in season three, recalls catching up on season two episodes, shocked at the unexpected deaths of Libby and Ana Lucia:

"I watched the whole second season in my trailer my first week. I really liked it. But I was shocked when those women (Ana Lucia and Libby, both gunned down without warning) got killed. That's probably where my fear of dying on the show began.

But I found the work to be so exhilarating, I decided: Until they fire me, I'm gonna just make this all that I want it to be."

And while I still struggle with whether to trust Juliet or not, Mitchell provides little comfort:

"I think she's scary," says Mitchell, her smile luminous. "But I like it."
