I stumbled across an interesting statistic in this week's Entertainment Weekly. They have a chart for the top twenty most-DVR-ed shows that were viewed within seven days of airing. Lost was number one, winning over otherwise better-rated heavyweights like American Idol and the Oscars. That didn't necessarily surprise me, but the numbers themselves did.
Within seven days of Kate's flashback episode airing, 3.7 million more viewers watched it. That's on top of the 13.6 million viewers who watched it initially, already enough to put it that week's top ten, and a whopping 21% of its total 17.3 million viewers. By contrast, most shows can expect DVR boosts of 5-10%. If you consider the emergence of the DVR in only the past few years, the numbers this season have almost matched those of the first.
