Dharma Rumination

Okay, so it's still summer and we're still getting any and every tidbit of information from Entertainment Weekly's Ausiello Files. But this little theory in the latest Q&A got me thinking:

Ausiello: I think Doc Jensen was suggesting that that the left-behinders got tossed back in time when Ben cranked the donkey wheel, and we're about to get a glimpse of the early Dharma days!

For all my own theorizing, I basically just decided that the island jumps forward ten months -- the same amount of time that Ben jumps when he lands in the Tunisian desert -- and left it at that. But now I'm wondering if I'm totally off base, mostly on the grounds that the castaways traveling back to Dharma times would be way cool.

Lindelof & Cuse said at Comic-Con that there would be a third storytelling device introduced this season that's different from flashbacks and flashforwards. My best guess is still that we'll see flashbacks that aren't based on any of the characters -- that is, we get to see the past, but stuff like Dharma and Rousseau, not anything from our heroes' personal histories.

But here's a twist to that: what if the castaways themselves see these visions? Like, when the island moved, the timeline got very messed up and confused and certain timelines are overlapping others. This may already be happening with the whispering, but what if it goes beyond mere whispering and into a full-fledged vision?

Not sure how you could pull that off past a few times, but it would be neat to see Sawyer suddenly find himself surrounded by Dharma hippies.

Just stuff to mull over...
