I'm starting to believe that the producers of Lost like throwing around inside-joke-based code words about episodes just to watch us squirm uncomfortably and grasp at impossible-metaphor straws. So while there are theories galore as to what "Frozen Donkey Wheel" (the code word given to the twist in this Thursday's finale) means, I'm going to choose to trust Carlton and Damon that it can't be understood until AFTER I see the episode:
"They start as inside jokes, and then in this case, we can't tell you what the inside joke was until after you've seen the scene, because the generation of the inside joke spoils the scene itself," says Lindeloff.
Over at CTV.ca, there is a little bit of exploration into what the clue could mean. I'll admit that Ben's breath in the desert did occur to me as odd. And probably important. That could possibly be our link to the word "Frozen." Or maybe it's all about the polar bears. We must not forget the polar bears.
Earlier this season, in the episode "The Shape of Things to Come," Ben wakes up in the Tunisian desert wearing a parka. Then, when he takes his first breath of air, it looks like a puff of white smoke comes from his mouth.Putting these two clues together, it appears that Ben had just arrived from colder climate -- perhaps where a "Frozen Donkey Wheel" might exist.
The code name could also refer to the mechanism that can "move the island," which Locke believes is a duty he must perform.
Either way, the finale should reveal more about the properties of the mysterious island and why Charles Widmore and his freighter crew are so eager to find it.
I doubt there's an actual Donkey Wheel. That's too easy. And, uh, nonsensical. But moving the island? I wouldn't be surprised. Okay, I'd be a little surprised. But in a good, Lost-is-awesome sort of way.
What do you think? Any "Frozen Donkey Wheel" theories?
