Celebrating Lost's 100th Episode

Tonight's episode, "The Variable" -- which I now think could refer to Desmond, although my earlier predictions of Mrs. Hawking or Faraday still work too -- marks Lost's 100th episode.

Unlike Obama's first 100 days in office, it's not necessarily an artificial milestone, because let's face it, not a lot of shows reach 100 episodes. Especially heavily-plotted sci-fi serials. Plus, it gives newspapers and websites excuses to write lots of retrospectives about the show.

Variety had Lost writers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis write a guest editorial about what the writer's room is really like. It's a terrific article. An excerpt:

We all come back in, maybe a little later than the day before, and all with the same conclusion.
The problem is unfixable.

Time to scrap it. Can't be done. We need something else. Do we have any backup ideas? Island talent show sounds pretty good right about now. Yeah. We're doomed.
