As the finale nears, we're getting the usual string of cryptic comments about what's to come.
Michael Emerson (Ben) has the most interesting quote, in my opinion:
Every season, in the telling of ‘Lost,’ the lens pulls back another notch so that the picture gets bigger, includes more stuff, more people, more places. So I’ll be curious to see what is now included when the lens jumps back another step. I think it will be more fragmented. The geography of the show as we’ve known it will be upset. Everybody will be in a new place.
That was certainly true of some extent in the third season finale - the arc of the entire series was revealed to be much different than we had originally counted on. Everybody assumed the show would end as soon as the castaways were rescued - not that said rescue would only be one piece that came in the middle of the story.
Evangeline Lilly meanwhile claims this finale will be better than that Season 3 finale:
I think the Season 3 finale was really good, but I think this season, our finale is the most hard-hitting finale we’ve ever done. It completely revolutionizes the face of our show. I have no idea what my show is going to look like next year based on the finale. And that’s really exciting as an actress. It keeps you interested.
Hard-hitting? Well, we are bound to see Nadia's fate, which will be hard to watch. Even knowing it ends in tragedy, watching Sayid the romantic lose the woman he loves - again - will be rough. As for the "revolutionizes the face of the show" business, while I still contend that the on-island folk could be looking at a big time-travel jump, I'm curious about the Oceanic Six: where will things stand with them? Will we see more off-island plots co-mingled with the on-island stuff? Or will they all die? (Half-kidding.)
And from Damon Lindelof:
All we can say is that it’s going to be very hard to get back to the island for those guys. But life will continue for the people who are not with them. How are we going to tell that story? We’re not going to tell that.
Okay, so life will continue for the people still stuck on the island - we figured that. But again he re-iterates that it will be extremely hard to get back to the island - which is either because the island moves in time, or all the Oceanic 6 die. (Again, only half-kidding.)
