Okay, so clearly the writers were tapped into my brain on the daughters issue. Yes, Ben and Charles are both evil. And yes, they both have great daughters. So let's use this and twist it into a gut-wrenching episode....
A look at my viewing notes:
Kate's showing some skin. Jack's giving her that eye. The URST (Unresolved sexual tension) is established. Clearly, something's in the works.
The doc is sick. With what?
"Australia's the key to the whole game." I love Risk. Even more, I love Lost's writers.
So now Ben's playing the piano. He, Jack and Charlie should start a band. Oh, wait. Charlie might not be available.
Ben knows that the people after him won't hurt him. Is this part of the "rules" he keeps referring to? Is this in the same family of rules that keeps Michael and Jack from killing themselves post-island?
"'When' is kind of a relative term." Faraday is telling us something. I have a feeling that this issue of time is only going to get more confusing. Not that it's really all that linear anyway. I'm just counting on major time-jumping. And possible future-altering.
In Iraq, Ben needs to know the day and year. So was he "beamed" from the island to the desert (as done earlier by our polar bear friend) into the future? And did he know that Sayid was in mourning before he even got there? Oh, manipulative Ben, making Sayid think he's volunteering to hunt for you of his own free will.
It's official: love equals pain. I don't think we're getting a happily-ever-after for anyone, folks. Sayid finally reconnects with Nadia. And then she's killed. Everyone who loves someone has a lot to lose. And they probably will.
Ben's reverse psychology doesn't work. Rules are not followed. The gun is fired. ALEX IS DEAD?!?!?!?!
Ben: "Go home, Sayid. Once you let your grief become anger, it never goes away." Spoken from experience.
Smokey attacks. And Ben appears to be pulling the strings. Conveniently, he seems to have a secret lair (albeit a filthy one) that allows his access to the smoke monster.
Ben cries. Nadine almost does.
Cut to Speed Racer commercial. Hmm.
Finally, Jack learns what the rest of us have known for some time: The Freighter Folk never had any intentions of getting them off the island. Is this the beginning of a physical and emotional downward spiral for the doc?
Sawyer says what I'm thinking: "Who the hell is Jacob?"
Okay, so we've got a Ben/Widmore showdown. Except there are rules. Widmore broke them when Alex was killed. So Ben vows to hunt down Widmore's beloved daughter. And my heart jumps into my chest. Not Penny. She and Desmond are the hope of this show. She's Desmond's constant. SHE. CAN'T. DIE.
I'm completely torn. For the first time, I felt for Ben. Sure, he's still evil, but less so than Widmore. Except that his quest for revenge complicates things, as Penny is (so far) a non-island innocent. And I'm on Team Penny and Des.
