Another new character

After revealing Dan the attorney and Caesar and Ilana, Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello gives us a fourth new character: an "attractive Asian woman" named Martha. He reports:

She's a smart, capable scientist who's taking a break to raise her baby. Paging Doc Jensen…. "At Comic-Con, Cuselof screened a new Dharma video featuring Dr. Marvin Candle, in which he reveals his true name (Pierre Chang) and claims he's sending a message from 30 years in the past to our present moment. During the video, we hear a baby crying, and Chang stands up at one point to tell someone off screen to shush the baby up. Could Martha be Candle/Chang's wife? And if she is, that means her name is likely "Martha Chang." Which means she shares a name with Martha Chang, producer of such kids movies as 3 Ninjas and Galgameth, the story of a boy and his dragon." Thanks, Doc! Paging two extra strength Advil….

Putting that theory aside, you think Asian, you naturally think she's going to pop up in a scene with Jin or Sun. If I'm right that the first episode will take place on-island but flash-forward to Locke's adventures as Jeremy Bentham, we will indeed be seeing Sun -- who also has a (relatively) new baby.

So let's say she's a friend of Sun's. Locke goes to find Sun and tell her to come back to the island. Martha accidentally sees him -- which turns out to be pretty good news for her, because her scientist friends from the undoubtedly creepy organization she works at would be pretty interested to hear about a secret survivor of 815...
