As a proud member of Team Jate (as opposed to Team Skate), last night's episode satisfied my need for Jack and Kate to be together. And then it tore it everything to shreds. As it should. Because it's Lost.
The show also seems to be heading in a direction where the flashes include everyone. As lives intersect more and more, it's no longer possible to tell one story without including others. Last night's flash-forward included Jack, Kate, Aaron, Hurley, Christian, and mentions of Charlie and Sawyer....
My thoughts:
We open on Jack's eye. Just like the pilot episode.
I'm ridiculously excited to see Jack and Kate together in the future. The story Jack is reading Aaron sounds a little time-trippy to me. But everything does these days.
Claire has a bit of a headache. Hmm. Not another sick person. This doesn't make sense. Or is it setting her up for a hallucination?
Sawyer giving Miles a restraining order against Claire is the highlight of my evening. Good on ya, writers.
As Michael mentioned, Rose addresses my island-sickness concerns: "Why did he get sick?" And later, "Here, people get better." I am consistently amused by the way the writers tackle my plot stumbling blocks head-on.
Hurley says what we've all speculated: "All the Oceanic Six, we're all dead." Which probably means they aren't. Again, the writers are reading my mind.
Miles and Charlotte's shifty glances seem to indicate that most of what they say are lies. And now Charlotte has promised to get Sun off the island. But things are rarely so straight-forward. I still expect some sort of rescue twist.
Kate acts as a literal crutch for Jack. Is this symbolism? It's Lost. Sure it is.
The romantic in me swoons at Jack's proposal. At the same time, I'm pretty sure there's fear in his eyes. Not a good sign.
CHRISTIAN. Okay, so his name alludes to a resurrection. So is he alive? A ghost? A hallucination? Someone/something else in the form of Christian? And both his kids are seeing him (yes, at different times and in different places...) Notice how he appears in Aaron-related situations? Charlie did leave that message about how Jack shouldn't be raising him. Aaron is super-key to the big picture of this show. Pinky swear.
We once again we see the pilot mirrored: Jack is being stitched up by a woman with a mysterious past.
I love how our quadrangle was narrowed back down to our beloved triangle. And that Sawyer is assumed to be alive ("He made his choice. He chose to stay") in the future. Now I'm trying to figure out if he's merely protective of Claire or if something else is brewing.
What did Kate promise to do for Sawyer?
"I'm the one who saved you." So Jack DOES save/rescue them. Or at least Kate. But how does he discover that he's related to Aaron? Does Christian tell him?
Miles tells Sawyer about what he saw during the night. He saw Christian. And Miles sees ghosts.
Notice how the promo for next week also had an eyeball closeup? Of Locke's eye. Clearly, this is an island divided. Perhaps with parallel leaders.
