Amy, and Other Loose Ends

Remember Amy? She's easy to forget now that we're hub-deep in killing Jacob and setting off an H bomb. She was set up as a major Dharma character, mothered Ethan, but disappeared after three episodes. That was the length of actress Reiko Aylesworth's initial guest star contract, so I guess the writers decided to head in a direction that didn't require her character.

That's a little bit of a shame, because I feel like a chunk of the show is missing as a result. In her episodes, especially the first one, they set up a lot of intrigue about the Dharma Initiative that hasn't had a chance to be answered. Namely:

-What were her and her husband doing outside Dharma territory when they were captured by the Hostiles?

-Does it tie into what the so-called "inner circle" is doing in Hostile territory?

-What were the rules of the Dharma/Hostiles' truce?

-What did the Others do with her husband's body?

-What happened in the three-year interim that made her shack up with Horace?

Some of these questions are more important than others, sure. But this is why I prefer full 22-episode seasons (aside from the obvious reason that that means more Lost). We'd be able to have episodes that actually showed Sawyer, Juliet, and everybody actually living in Dharmaville, that answered the intrigue and gave us more info about how the whole Dharma/Hostiles relationship really works.

Some people would say those episodes would drag. Maybe, maybe not. But it would give the season a more lived-in feel rather than just spending the whole time rushing to the finish line. The writers no doubt introduced Amy with the assumption that they'd be able to flesh out Dharma details, but then realized they had X amount of episodes left and had to introduce plot points A, B, and C.

I'm not necessarily saying that's bad for the show, but it is something to think about. It's apparently hard to delve too deeply into Dharma intrigue when you've also got the Oceanic 6 returning, Locke getting resurrected, Sun desperate to find her husband, the Shadow of the Statue cult, Desmond getting shot, and lots of new info to download about time travel, Faraday, Richard, Eloise, and Widmore.

Anyway, I figured I'd get these questions/complaints out of the way before the finale. It's time to get pumped! Two hour Lost extravaganza! Wooooooooooooot!
