About That Time Loop Theory

There's a new theory of Lost that's making a big splash on the internet. Called the "Time Loop Theory," it was written by typical Lost fanatic Jason Hunter and can be found at timelooptheory.com.

While the entire theory involves a length timeline, a Q&A, rebuttals, evidence, etc., I have to be honest: it makes no sense. At least to me. Something about the island being stuck in a time loop set in 1996, and Ben and Richard joining forces to go time-jumping around from the '80s to '04 to '96 and holy crap there's no way this is true. Judging by the site's popularity, however, it seems to make for reasonably compelling fanfiction.

I'm all for highly detailed theories -- this is my favorite show of all time, after all -- but my main problem with the time loop theory is that it fails to explain both the Smoke Monster and Jacob -- the two main aspects of the island's major mythology. Oh sure, they're mentioned, but in a very tacked-on sense: Smokey is supposedly the "physical means in which the timeline course-corrects itself," i.e. he's there to stop anyone from creating a time travel paradox, while Jacob was apparently a friend of Ben and Richard's who got stuck without a body after dying in the future, or something.

Basically, the theory exists because Hunter got really excited after all the time travel in "The Constant" and subsequently tried to base every mystery in the show around it. And you know what? For all my whining and moaning here, I respect the devotion that went into making the theory.

It's just not as good as mine.

If I ever get around to writing it.

Or, uh, thinking it up.
