ABC's Early Renewals

Lost got "officially" picked up for its final season yesterday, even though they were already contractually signed on to produce one. It was part of a broad announcement picking up all their hit shows -- Lost, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Dancing with the Stars, and Brothers and Sisters -- as well as "staples" like Supernanny and Wife Swap (whew!).

No word yet on the future of The Unusuals, Lost's current follow-up show, but the rumors aren't good. ABC tried to help it out by airing it after a Dancing with the Stars results show on Tuesday, but its ratings were even worse than what it was pulling post-Lost.

Which sucks. Because you know what? It's a cool show. Even my girlfriend likes it, and that's no small feat. Good characters, good dialogue, good stories, and it avoids cheesiness and most cliches. And Harold Perinneau -- you know, Michael -- is actually great in it. (Amazing what actors can do when they don't have to spend an entire season shouting "I'm gonna get my son back." I kid, I kid.)

Other Lost fans, show it some love. You'll like it. After five years, it's the only post-Lost show I've actually bothered watching. Remember The Invasion, The Nine, or Daybreak? Me either. They all tried to have these elaborate mythologies that were pointless because they couldn't be as cool as Lost. The Unusuals, on the other hand, is a funny cop show that works well as a cool-down from an hour of Dharma-induced mind-racing.
