1 Theory, Do I Hear 2 Theories, 2.342 Theories? Sold!

So much to talk about concerning tonight's mind-blower, but until I can gather my thoughts and present you with some intelligent commentary tomorrow, tonight I'll simply mention the biggest double-take moment for theory hounds: the auction.

I happened to have had my computer on my lap while watching the episode, and as soon as we were presented with that photo of the Black Rock I started frantically typing what the auctioneer was saying. This is what I got:

"1845 sian journal of first mate pirates 7 years later seller - hanso - penny's dad was bidding on it! Won! Bidder 755!"

Luckily, a friend later sent me this much more coherent recap courtesy of Lostpedia:

The Black Rock set sail from Portsmouth, England March 22, 1845, purportedly on a trading mission to the Kingdom of Siam. The ship was believed to have been lost at sea. Seven years later, the journal of the ship's first mate was discovered among the artifacts of pirates on Île Sainte-Marie, an island off the coast of Madagascar. This journal was believed to be the only surviving remnant of the Black Rock's ill-fated final voyage. In 1996, the journal was sold at a Southfield's auction by the family of Tovard Hanso, in lot #2342, for £380,000 to bidder #755, Charles Widmore.

And here's more to chew on: according to the blast door map, Magnus Hanso is buried on the island near the Black Rock.

So let's walk through this: the Black Rock goes on it's final voyage. A journal from the ship is stolen by pirates. The ship crashes on the island and Magnus Hanso dies there. The family of Magnus Hanso hunts down the journal, which quite possibly contains information about the island, and collects it. The Hanso Foundation led by Alvar Hanso then finances the Dharma Initiative to go study the island. In 1996, the Dharma Initiative is long defunct and the Hanso family auctions off the journal. The winning bidder is Charles Widmore, who possibly has his own interest in the island. His daughter Penny then uses the journal in her quest to find Desmond, who she realizes washed ashore that very island.

Did I get all that right? Some of my details are fuzzy, but that's still a fairly giant chunk of Lost chronology falling into place - cementing the connection between the Black Rock to the Hanso Foundation/Dharma Initiative to the Widmores. Things are falling into place...
